Polymer-Bound Masterbatches
Chemipat Ltd manufactures polymer-bound masterbatches in Salford, UK. Since 1976 we have supplied rubber compounders with predispersed chemicals – accelerators, vulcanizing agents, sulphur donors, antioxidants, blowing agents and more – bound in a polymer carrier so they weigh, handle and disperse cleanly.
What is a polymer-bound masterbatch?
A polymer-bound masterbatch (sometimes called a polymer-bound predispersion or predispersed chemical) is a rubber chemical that has been pre-mixed into a compatible polymer binder at a high, fixed concentration. Instead of adding a loose powder to the mixer, the compounder adds a dust-free pellet, slab or granule containing a known percentage of active ingredient.
Because the chemical is already wetted out and distributed in polymer, it incorporates quickly into the rubber compound and gives more uniform results from batch to batch.
Benefits of polymer-bound masterbatches
- Better dispersion – the active chemical is pre-dispersed, reducing undispersed particles and cure variation.
- Batch-to-batch consistency – a fixed active content makes weighing accurate and repeatable.
- Cleaner, safer factories – dust-free forms reduce airborne chemical exposure and cross-contamination between compounds.
- Easier handling and storage – no caking, bridging or static-driven dust from fine powders.
- Shorter mixing cycles – faster incorporation can reduce mixing time and energy.
Our polymer-bound masterbatch range
Our full predispersed chemicals list includes technical details and CAS numbers. The range covers:
- Accelerator masterbatches – CBS, TBBS, MBTS, MBT, DPG, TMTD, TMTM, TBzTD, ZDEC, ZDBC, ZDMC, ZBEC, TDEC, DPTT and DPTH.
- Vulcanizing agents – sulphur (S 80E, S 75SBR, S 75NBR), insoluble sulphur (IS 50E, IS 70E, IS 70SBR, IS 75E) and zinc oxide (ZNO 80E, ZNO 85E, ZNO 85NBR). See our sulfur masterbatch page.

- Blowing agents – azodicarbonamide grades, OBSH and TSH for closed-cell and sponge rubber.
- Retarders – CTPI 80E and CTPI 80SBR for scorch control.
- Flame retardants – ATR 90CPE and ATR 80E.
- Adhesion promoters – HMT 80E, HMT 80NR and HMT 80SBR.
Binders and product codes
Every product code tells you the chemical, the active content and the binder. For example, S 80E is sulphur, 80% active, in an EPDM binder. Choosing a binder compatible with your base polymer avoids contamination of the finished compound.
| Code | Binder | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| E | EPDM | General purpose; EPDM and many blends |
| NR | Natural rubber | NR compounds, tyres, anti-vibration |
| SBR | Styrene butadiene rubber | SBR and NR/SBR blends |
| NBR | Nitrile rubber | Oil-resistant nitrile compounds |
| CPE | Chlorinated polyethylene | CPE and halogenated compounds |
Industries we supply
Our masterbatches are used across rubber compounding: automotive parts, tyres, cables, conveyor belting, hoses, flooring, inflatable goods, shoe soles and rubberised fabrics.
Bespoke and toll manufacturing
As well as our standard range, we can develop a bespoke polymer-bound masterbatch around your processing equipment and application, manufacture to your own formulation on a confidential toll basis, or supply under your own brand. Chemipat is ISO 9001 registered.
Packaging
All products are packed in 25 kg boxes, 500 kg net on a heat-treated pallet.
Frequently asked questions
Is a polymer-bound masterbatch the same as a predispersed chemical?
Yes. The terms are used interchangeably for rubber chemicals pre-dispersed in a polymer binder.
How do I adjust my formulation when switching from powder?
Divide the powder dosage by the active content. For example, 1.0 phr of powder CBS becomes 1.25 phr of CBS 80E. The binder contributes a small amount of polymer to the compound.
Can you match a competitor’s grade?
Often, yes. Send us the product data sheet and we will advise on an equivalent or a bespoke option.
